A thematic node of the European Open Science Cloud
Federating marine data, research environments, analytical services and computing resources for collaborative, FAIR and reproducible ocean science.
This Node Landing Page is publicly accessible without login. Protected resources display an EOSC-AAI access route and their User Access Policy before users enter.
The development and operation of the EOSC Node | European Digital Twin Ocean are supported by the EOSC-Marine project : Operationalizing the EOSC Node | European Digital Twin Ocean to Support the EU Mission Ocean & Waters.
EOSC-Marine has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Actions programme under grant agreement No 101292903, managed by the European Research Executive Agency (REA).
Funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are, however, those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or REA. Neither the European Union nor the granting authority can be held responsible for them.
Node scope
The Node connects multidisciplinary marine data with collaborative research environments, cloud computing, storage, analytical methods and FAIR research products.
Originating from the Blue-Cloud initiative, it supports the construction, execution and sharing of ocean-science workflows across climate, biodiversity, ecosystem monitoring, coastal dynamics, fisheries, marine restoration, physical and biogeochemical oceanography, and offshore renewable energy.
Users can discover datasets and services, work in Virtual Research Environments and Virtual Labs, run notebooks and analytical methods, manage shared files, publish research products and collaborate across organisations.
Node capabilities
Search multidisciplinary data, research products, methods and services through Node catalogues.
Work in community-oriented VREs with shared workspaces, communication and controlled membership.
Use JupyterLab, RStudio, Galaxy and the Collaborative Computing Platform on managed backends.
Combine observations, models and data from European Blue Data Infrastructures.
Create documented, citable and reusable data products with provenance and persistent records.
Adapt transparent workflows and services for new scientific questions and Digital Twin Ocean uses.
CNR coordinates the Node and operates its D4Science-based digital infrastructure with European marine-data, research-infrastructure and technology partners.
Public pages and catalogues are available anonymously. Interactive resources use EOSC-compliant federated authentication; each resource below states whether access is open, moderated or restricted.
Research resources
Every entry provides its purpose and User Access Policy. The D4Science Access and Acceptable Use Policy applies to all D4Science-hosted environments; datasets and software may carry additional conditions shown in their records.
Model and explore nutrient, plankton, organic-matter and carbon dynamics, supporting investigation of biological carbon sequestration and marine ecosystem responses.
Integrate HF-radar, drifter and satellite-altimetry observations to produce improved coastal surface-current maps and support transport or pollution studies.
A general-purpose one-stop shop where researchers can discover and execute Node methods, use shared files, run notebooks or R analyses, and assemble workflows.
Harmonise and analyse ecosystem-level Essential Ocean Variables and related observations to build quality-controlled, reusable marine ecosystem products.
Integrate and qualify chlorophyll, nutrient and oxygen observations for eutrophication assessment, climatologies and environmental indicators.
Provide harmonised global fisheries and fish-stock knowledge through the Fisheries Atlas, Global Tuna Atlas, GRSF, semantic queries and reproducible R workflows.
Combine European coastal observations for studies of transboundary transport and connectivity, extreme events and repeated ocean-glider sections.
Compute and visualise Marine Heatwaves, Ocean Heat Content, TRIX and Storm Severity indicators for environmental assessment and decision support.
Integrate, harmonise, quality-control and deduplicate in-situ temperature and salinity data for EOV products, reanalysis and data-driven applications.
Consortium and synergy environments
These environments are connected to the Node but may apply project- or community-specific membership rules. Their access model is stated before users follow the access link.
A collaborative environment for EOSC-Marine consortium members to share project documents and materials, communicate and coordinate project activities.
Support marine-restoration planning, implementation and monitoring with guided protocol tools, spatial prioritisation, image analysis and regional digital-twin demonstrators.
Support the development of an integrated European research infrastructure for offshore renewable-energy testing, shared knowledge, data-management procedures and community collaboration.
Public Available anonymously, although contribution functions may require authentication. Open EOSC AAI Any EOSC user may authenticate and join. Moderated An EOSC user submits a request reviewed by a VRE manager. Restricted Access is limited to an identified project or community.
Node access and policies
The public landing page, resource descriptions and catalogues can be consulted without login. Authentication is required only when a user enters a protected environment or invokes a protected service.
Select Sign in with EOSC AAI, choose the academic or EOSC-compatible identity offered by the D4Science login service, authenticate with the identity provider, and return to the requested Node resource.
Open the EOSC-compliant loginThe policy covers authentication, VRE roles, open, moderated and private access models, permitted use, security, quotas, APIs and enforcement across D4Science-hosted Node resources.
Read the Access and Acceptable Use PolicyEach resource card above states its access model. Authentication does not override membership rules: moderated access requires approval and restricted environments remain limited to authorised communities.
View the live resource indexSource datasets, software and generated products retain their own licences, citation requirements and provider conditions. Users must consult the applicable catalogue record before reuse.
